Hi,

We got our PR in April 2015 and we will fulfill the 3 years PR requirements to purchase the HDB in April 2018.
We are in the process of sorting out the loan eligibility with the bank now.
Is it ok for us to start looking/viewing for the properties as it could take a while to find the right property?
Or we need to wait till we complete the 3 years PR status?
Any advise or suggestion on this is much appreciated?

Hi, yes you could start to view first and it is recommended that you do so a few months before you hit the 3 years mark. Reason being that you would need a while to find your preferred unit and also do some shortlisting too.

Hi John,

You may decide to view the properties but you will not be able to purchase as you have not reach your 3 years wait.

You can only sign the OTP after the 3 years. Any viewing at this point in time will likely be a waste of your time. Good unit usually will sell off quite quickly before you are ready and "bad" unit will likely to be around.

In my personal experienced with most SPR/SPR couple, usually they are quick in picking a unit as they have the experienced from being a tenant. The task for picking rented place had honed their experience which help when they buy.

With HDB streamlining their processes from the 18 weeks to 6 weeks, the transaction time becomes much shorter.

If the requirement for your purchase is tight, it might be good to start hunting now. However, for normal purchase of resale unit, you might need around 3 to 4 weeks to secure something suitable.
